First Line Fridays -Flights of Fancy

First Line FridaysHere’s another First Line Fridays hosted by Hoarding Books!  It’s a fun way to share good books and spread the love of words on the page.

Since I walk my dog twice a day to get his energy out, I have taken to checking out audiobooks from Hoopla (through my library). This week I am listening to Flights of Fancy by Jen Turano. So far it’s been a fun and witty read.

About the book:

Flights of Fancy_Jen Turano

Miss Isadora Delafield may be an heiress, but her life is far from carefree. When her mother begins pressuring her to marry an elderly and uncouth duke, she escapes from the high society world she’s always known and finds herself to be an unlikely candidate for a housekeeper position in rural Pennsylvania.

Mr. Ian MacKenzie is known for his savvy business sense and has built his reputation and fortune completely on his own merits. But when his adopted parents are in need of a new housekeeper and Isadora is thrown into his path, he’s unexpectedly charmed by her unconventional manner.

Neither Isadora nor Ian expected to find the other so intriguing, but when mysterious incidents on the farm and the truth of Isadora’s secret threaten those they love, they’ll have to set aside everything they thought they wanted for a chance at happy-ever-after.

First Line:

“Wonderful news, darling. I have it on good authority from none other than Mr. Ward McAllister that the Duke of Montrose has taken a special interest in you.”

I won this book from a Seekerville blog post by Mindy Obenhaus. While I haven’t read the book yet, it is next up in my TBR pile. It looks to be a fun holiday read:  The Deputy’s Holiday Family

About the book:

He’s always regretted that their friendship became strained after he started dating her sister in high school. I have had this book on my kindle for over a year and embarrassed I haven’t read it yet. I’ve been told it is fabulous. Given that it is about a preacher’s wife, I can’t wait to dig in and see how much of it I can relate to. 🙂 The book is Walking Shoes by Lynne Gentry.

Cover Reveal for Lord of Her Heart

cover reveal _lohh

Opening up my email and seeing the cover of my debut novel, Lord of Her Heart, has been one of the most exciting aspects of this publication journey. Yes, getting the contract was HUGE, but seeing the cover made it seem real. My book baby got all dressed up and looks amazing! I’m so excited to reveal the cover to you today!

Writing a romance set in the middle ages was such fun. Throwing Jocelyn, a high-born lady disguised as a boy, with Malcolm, a fierce knight looking to make a name for himself, ended up being more fun to write than I originally thought. While they both want the same thing – a sense of home and security – they must deal with their trust issues in order to work together to reach their goals.

Here’s a sneak peek at Lord of Her Heart‘s back cover copy:

Lady Jocelyn Ashburne suspects something is amiss at her family’s castle because her father ceases to write to her. When she overhears a plot to force her into vows—either to the church or a husband—she disguises herself and flees the convent in desperation to discover the truth.

Malcolm Castillon of Berkham is determined to win the next tournament and be granted a manor of his own. After years of proving his worth on the jousting field, he yearns for a life of peace. Rescuing a scrawny lad who turns out to be a beautiful woman is not what he bargained for. Still, he cannot deny that she stirs his heart like no other, in spite
of her conniving ways.

Chaos, deception, and treachery threaten their goals, but both are determined to succeed. Learning to trust each other might be the only way either of them survives.

I gave my newsletter subscribers an early peek yesterday, but here is Lord of Her Heart‘s cover!

I think Elaina Lee and the team at Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas did a fabulous job. I love the way he is holding her, the sword in his hand, the purple-tinged mist and clouds, and the castle in the background. And check out that long name at the bottom of the cover! Somebody pinch me!

Lord of Her Heart is scheduled for release May 14, 2019.  You won’t miss it. I will be sharing more about it as the day draws near.

What do you think of Lord of Her Heart‘s cover?

First Line Fridays – The Mistletoe Inn

First Line FridaysHere’s another First Line Fridays hosted by Hoarding Books!  It’s a fun way to share good books and spread the love of words on the page.

I was given this book by a sweet friend who thought I’d love it because the story is about a writer. ❤ Why yes! I believe I shall! The book is The Mistletoe Inn by Richard Paul Evans.

About the book:

Mistletoe Inn

At thirty-two Kimberly Rossi, a finance officer at a Lexus car dealership, has had her heart broken more times than she wants to remember. With two failed engagements, a divorce and again alone with no prospects, she hardly seems the type to dream of being a published romance author. Dreading another holiday alone, she signs up for The Mistletoe Retreat, a nine-day writing retreat in Burlington, VT. Deep inside Kimberly knows she’s at a junction in her life and it’s time to either fulfill her dream or let it go. The other reason she decides to attend the conference is because famed romance writer, H.T. Cowell, once the best selling romance writer in America, and the author whose books instilled in her the desire to be a writer, will be speaking in public for the first time in more than a decade.

In one of her breakout sessions Kimberly meets another aspiring writer, and one of the few men at the conference, Zeke, an intelligent man with a wry wit who seems as interested in Kimberly as he is in the retreat. As Kimberly begins to open up to him about her stories and dreams, she inadvertently reveals her own troubled past. As Zeke helps her to discover why her books fail to live up to their potential she begins to wonder if he’s really talking more about her life than her literature. But as she grows closer to him, she realizes that Zeke has his own darkness, a past he’s unwilling to talk about.

The theme of The Mistletoe Inn is that like literature, relationships must be lived with passion and vulnerability to succeed.
